Exodus 20:1-17, 31:18
We live on a highway in town.
There is quite a bit of traffic.
It is not safe for our grandkids or pets
to run around and play in the front yard.
You can't trust pets and maybe
little children, to stay in the
backyard either, but there we have a fence!
When our granddaughter’s dog is “visiting,”
they even use a leash inside the fence!
Some say that it is cruel to fence
in or leash a dog, but most
recognize that they are for protection.
A fence is not to hem someone or
something in, but to protect them from being
harmed or killed by straying into
trouble. Fences are for protection!
So are the Ten Commandments!
God didn't give us those laws to restrict
us or deprive us of freedom or pleasures.
He knew that some things are not
good for us. They lead to
trouble and can lead to death.
So, He built “fences” of laws and rules to protect us!
If we would stay inside those fences,
we could enjoy safe, healthy, satisfying lives!
Prayer: Father, thank you for giving us
lifesaving and sensible rules to follow
even when we don't think of them that way.
Help us to see the wisdom in following
Your laws, rules, and principles.
Your ways are always best!
P.S. We all get tired of laws and rules
and regulations, especially when they
seem excessive or even just unnecessary to us.
And of course, they can be overdone.
But on the other hand, look at
what could happen without these:
Danger! Bridge out ahead!
High Voltage – Do Not Touch!
- or even just Wet Paint!
Oxygen in Use – No Smoking!
Restrictive Or Protective? Depends on
your attitude and how much you value life!
